April 22, the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy announced the Pier 1 lawns were officially open! They chose Earth Day for the big unveiling, fitting as they've implemented an organic lawn care program endorsed by Environmental Protection Agency. When we dropped by earlier people were already enjoying the view.
If you want to sink your feet into the grass, keep in mind that dogs aren't allowed—however, children are! And it may be the safest place for them in the park—currently one play area has been burning skin and breaking noses, while another being constructed at Pier 6 looks terrifying at best. So we recommend the soft, non-metallic, all-natural grass!
